Diet

Today was day 1 of the “Fighter Diet” from the ebook that I got from Pauline via her online shop. When I first took a look at it I was wondering if I would begin to hate eating, but much to my surprise I loved the food and the fact that I really got to eat a lot while on it!  Seriously, it takes a LOT for me to feel full, because I’ve always had a more than healthy appetite but as I’m writing this tonight I am still full from dinner three hours ago! The concept is – going 5 or 6 days “on” with low carbs, mostly lean protein such as shrimp, chicken and egg whites (carbs early on in the day only) while filling up on vegetables like cabbage, broccoli, and other ‘free’ green veggies. I get to eat five to six meals a day, and have my beloved oatmeal in the morning with flaxseed and wheat bran, yum! Then day 7 is “re-feed” day when you get to have tons of carbs (even frozen yogurt!), and pretty much double your calorie intake. This is so you will ‘shock’ your body by telling it to never get used to receiving too few or too many calories and this way the body won’t stop burning the food you feed it. By mixing up the calorie intake, your body will be forced to constantly do away with the energy it receives in the form of calories, in an efficient way. Smart, huh? This is more for people who have very little weight to lose and are struggling with those last few pounds. My goal is to lose 5 more pounds but simultaneously gain the same weight in muscles, so this will take some time. No more “lose 2 lbs per week” – now I’m lucky if I manage to lose 2 lbs in a month or two! This is because my body refuses to get any leaner or lose any more fat naturally but I will show it!  I will work hard and be patient as long as I can continue to develop more muscle.

So one of the best secrets of the diet is shirataki noodles, sometimes also referred to as the miracle noodle. Japanese in origin, you can find it in Asian food markets and some health food stores. What’s so great about them? They are loaded with fiber and contain NO CALORIES! Yes, that’s right, no calories and no gluten! There are two types; one is made from tofu that needs refrigeration /can spoil and does have some calories (40 calories per each 8 oz bag, so practically nothing) and the other is made from yams and contains zero calories. They come in different shapes; angel hair, fettucine, orzo and rigatoni to name the most popular ones. They are a bit strange in texture (kind of similar to ramen noodles) and has initially a fishy smell right out of the package, but after rinsing it under hot water for 3 minutes the smell disappears and the noodles are ready for consumption! So they are super quick to make and you can basically prepare them any way you want to eat noodles, either in a soup, stir fry it with vegetables (as I did today) or pour tomato sauce over it with some parmesan cheese and eat them Italian style.  I feel like I’ve found an ingredient that’s too good to be true, and think I will include them in my diet daily from now on!
